Where in the world is Svalbard??
When I first heard of Svalbard, I had to take out the globe to figure out where I would be going. Just in case your wondering here is a map to show where I will be.
Right of the cost of Norway and up within the arctic circle. The town I will be staying at is the only town labeled on Svalbard which is Longyearbyen.
Longyearbyen is the largest settlement and the administrative center of Svalbard, Norway. As of 2008, the town had a population of 2,040.. The town is also the seat of the Governor of Svalbard and is the world's northernmost town.

The town was almost completely destroyed by the German Kriegsmarine on 8 August 1943, but was rebuilt after the Second World War.
Longyearbyen was a company town, but most mining operations have moved.
The first serial-produced snowmobile was taken into use in 1961. By 1969, there were 140 registered snowmobiles, but only 33 registered cars.
The community council runs a number of cultural activities, such as a cinema, a youth club, a library and a gallery. The towns sport's club is Svalbard Turn. Svalbardhallen is an indoor sport center which includes a multi-sport hall large enough for handball or three badminton courts, a shooting range and a 25-meter swimming pool.
Svalbard's climate is a combination of a cold Arctic climate tempered by the North Atlantic Current. Nordenskiƶld Land is the warmest and wettest part of the archipelago, caused by the convergence of mild and humid air from the south and cold air from the north.
Average summer temperatures are typically 4 to 6 °C (39 to 43 °F) while average winter temperatures are −12 to −16 °C (10 to 3 °F). Longyearbyen experiences midnight sun from 19 April through 23 August, and polar night from 14 November through 29 January. However, the sun is not visible in Longyearbyen until 8 March.
